Requires radio system and a .91-1.20 ci four-stroke motor.
From its very beginnings, this unique, small, two-seat training, touring and semi-aerobatic aircraft was a special, stand-out design. The Airtourer began
its illustrious career in Civil Aviation as a winning design in a Royal Aero Club competition in the early 1950s. That first prototype, built from wood, was
built by a small group of enthusiasts in Melbourne and first test flown in April, 1959. By 1961, Mervyn Victor Richardson, Chairman of Victa Ltd, had
pursued his interests in this beautiful plane and the first Victa Airtourer (metal construction this time) was test flown on December 12, 1961. During the
1960s, Victa (and later Aero Engine Services Ltd) built over 200 Airtourers, making it the most prolific Australia Civil Aircraft of its time. Today the love
affair continues with the Airtourer. The design is still in limited production-as of 2006-and the majority of the original production models (from 1961 to
1971) are still in service in Australia, the U.K, and North America.
Our Sportsman Aviation version, captured in 21% scale by Chris White, Aerobatic Champion in Australia, carries on the Airtourer tradition in model form.
Designed and tested by R/C aviation enthusiasts on 3 continents, the Sportsman Aviation Airtrourer design has resulted in a great-flying, great-looking,
unique model that is easy to build and fly for the typical R/C pilot. The wood construction airframe is masterfully covered in a scale color scheme. The
included fiberglass cowl and clear canopy are factory trimmed and painted, making installation easy. The Airtourer is a bigger scale model yet is as
easy to finish and fly as most smaller 40 size planes.
At the field you will have a unique plane with a unique look and great flying performance. Go ahead and wring it out! It will perform most pattern
maneuvers, just like its full-scale counterpart. Detail it with side-by-side pilot busts (sold separately) and really give it that finished detailed look. We
hope you enjoy flying your Airtourer just like all those full-scale pilots who have been flying them since the 1960s!
