XTM X-Crawler RC EP Super Class Assembled No Electrics

The XTM Super Class X-Crawler navigates just about any terrain - rocks, logs, and other off-roaders :-)

Put your 55-turn motors on each axle and the 90.5:1 final drive ratio will allow you to climb over just about anything!

    • Items Needed:
    We recommend downloading the manual to see exactly what setup options are available. You have several choices:

    First is the servos:
    We recommend very high torque servos. Airtronics 94780M (#474380) servos are priced at or below other 300 oz-in servos, but this servo produces over 400 oz-in of torque. On truly rough terrain, this extra power does make a difference.
    If you prefer to have as much power as you can get, but in a lower-cost servo, consider the Airtronics 94162Z (#474142). This servo produces the most torque in its class (144 oz in) and is priced under 40 dollars.
    Airtronics "Z" connectors plug into most standard receivers including JR, Hitec and Futaba.

    Next is the motors/ESC's:
    We recommend motors designed for rock crawling because they have the required torque. You will need a matching ESC for each motor.
    1. For economical brushed motors, we recommend the Novak Rooster Crawler ESC/Motor combination (#551727) These are brushed motors.
    2. For ultimate power, we recommend the Novak GOAT brushless motor and ESC combination (#551504)

    Either way, you will need 2 each (the X-Crawler uses 2 motors and 2 ESC's).

    Battery power:

    Most people choose sub-C size batteries because they are more affordable and heavier than Li-Po, and the extra weight seems to work better for crawling. We recommend the Hi-Energy 6-cell 3300mAh or 4500mAh battery pack. (#233854 or #233856).

    Radio:
    A simple 2-channel radio works fine. You will need 1 Y-Harness (#443930) to connect the ESC's and 1 Y-Harness with servo reversing to connect the servos. The servos need to work opposite of each other, thus the Y-Harness with servo reversing or 1 servo that works normally and 1 servo that works in reverse direction is needed (these are not common).

    If you use an Airtronics RDS8000 Crawler radio (#751726), you do not need the servo reverser.

    If you'd like to control the motors independently ("dig" function) and/or control the steering independently, you'll need a 4-channel radio with mixing. You can operate the truck normally, then the mixing switch allows you to change to independent front and rear motor and steering control. The mixing is programmable, so you can easily change the setup yourself.

    Note about ESC and motors:
    The wiring of ESCs and motors greatly affects performance.

    Wiring 2 motors in series (where one lead connects the "+" on one motor to the "-" on the other motor) to one ESC will cause the motors to operate at 1/2 the RPMs, but have the same amps rating as a single motor.

    WARNING!!! If wired in parallel (each motor wired directly to one speed control), the amps will double, but the RPMs will be the same as for a single motor. It is crucial that an ESC that is high-power ESC is used, otherwise it will not handle the power needed for both motors and this will cause it to fail!!!

    If you choose to use an ESC for each motor, power them up separately and perform individual setups.
