Castle Creations Sidewinder SV3 & 5700KV Motor

1:10th Scale Waterproof Sport Brushless Power System

This is a Castle Creations Sidewinder SV3 & 5700KV Motor 1:10th Scale Waterproof Sport Brushless Power System. Castle’s Sidewinder ESC, the leading 1:10th scale sport brushless ESC, is now waterproof. The new Sidewinder SV3 can power crawlers on water filled trails, SCTs through rain soaked parking lots and AWDs on rips across muddy fields. Drivers can follow their irresistible urges to drive in the mud or stomp their truck in puddles without damaging their controller.

The Sidewinder SV3 is a great fit for 1:10th scale off-road, on-road and rock crawlers running up to 3S LiPo. It sports updated circuitry for faster response time and improved reliability, and as always, the Sidewinder SV3 offers industry-leading software functions and USB programming capability via Castle Link USB adapter (sold separately).

This combo includes a Neu-Castle 1406 series 4-pole 5700KV sensorless brushless motor. The 1406 series motors feature a 1.4 inch diameter slotted stator, a four magnet, four pole neodymium rotor for more torque, high quality ball bearings and a removable end bell. The 1406 series motors crank out 30% more torque than the CM36 series motors with all the efficiency and endurance that Castle is known for.

UPDATE: Review by RC

I previously made a review about how hot this combo was running. I decided to go out to Harbor Freight and buy an infra red thermometer so I could see exactly how hot the motor/esc were actually getting. When running my SC10 in 90+ degree heat the motor did get hot but it never got above 155*, I had relied upon touch before having the thermometer and yes it felt and still feels very hot but it is actually within an acceptable range. Running in cooler outdoor temps lately the motor hasn't gotten up past 120-130* and the esc usually stays around 110-120* max. I also bought the Castle programming card and on 2s I can turn the motor timing up to 16 and sometimes 30* and it still does not overheat. When running the 3s I turn it down to 0 or 4* timing. For the price of this combo it is really hard to beat. I can't say I've ever run a $250-$300 esc/motor combo but I am not a racer and this combo on 3s is more than enough speed to get me in trouble if not careful. (Posted on 10/16/15)
Good for the $ Review by RC

I put this combo in my SC10RS with stock gearing running a 5000mah 2S and it did run too hot especially after high speed runs. I geared down to a 16t pinion and it runs much cooler now. I even got a 3s 3200mah and with that it runs on the hot side, you just have to be smart with it. The power on 3s is rediculous! I can be going along at 10mph, punch it and it will do a wheelie so quickly sometimes it does a backflip if I don't let off fast enough. Even on the 2s the power difference over the stock esc/motor is a big step up. If I was going to do it over again I'd probably just get the 3900kv motor for cooler/longer run times, especially if you want to run a 3s on it. (Posted on 8/30/15)

ive had this thing for about 2 weeks and i feeel i can make a reveiw about it now... when i first got it i put it in my rustler and had my way too high so this got super hot very fast so i was messing with different gears and i think this thing is dialed in just perfect i have a 19t pinion and 86t spur and i burned through my tires immediately! my dad has a traxxas slash with velineon motor and my rustler blows right past it ...HIGHLY recommend this system (Posted on 7/9/15)
Great System Review by RCDude

I have this combo. Currently it's in my Bandit. Does it get hot? Yes but only after some 60mph+ speed runs on a 3s lipo. To the guy with the DHK Hunter....gear down. Stock gearing in a Hunter is way too tall for a 5700kv motor. You need a 13t-14t pinion gear and this will bring the temperatures down. (Posted on 4/19/15)

I bought this product when another non-waterproof Castle system of mine was having issues after falling into a lake. Getting this system was a great move as I have never had heat issues or anything along those lines. It has been in my Rustler for about 2 months now and have run it on 2S and 3S. Very fast, programmable, and just a great product. Castle says to only use this system with cars of 5 pounds or less, but I've run it on my rustler when it had a light kit making the car weigh in at about 6.5 pounds. No heat issues yet. Castle also has great customer service from what I hear. (Posted on 2/4/14)
