U.D.T. troops were specially trained combat swimmers who could perform tasks like breaching cables and planting limpet mines on enemy boats. Many methods used to train these "Frogmen" are now used to train today's U.S Navy SEALs!
Named after Florida's Pine Island Sound, WWII's U.S.S. Pine Island was a Currituck-class seaplane tender for the U.S. Navy. Like most seaplane tenders, the U.S.S. Pine Island served as a mobile repair base for large naval seaplanes.
