Revell 1/72 YF-22 Raptor
The prototype for today's most advanced jet.
The YF-22 Raptor is the most advanced and most expensive fighter jet in the world. It is made with the most sophisticated flight control systems and materials that have ever been developed. In addition it has stealth like quality and cannot be detected on radar. The YF-22 Raptor with its vectored thrust has the ability to fly virtually straight up from a stationary position. The YF-22 was the prototype version of the production F-22 which was first delivered in January of 2003. It was designed to replace both the F-15 and F-16 for the Air Force. Originally designed as an air superiority fighter, the F-22 has expanded to the role of a ground attack aircraft. All of the F-22 attack weapons are stored internally which helps it to avoid radar detection.
In the early 1980s, the YF-22 Raptor was developed as a U.S. counterpart for the MiG-29 and Su-27. Its first flight took place on September 29, 1990. Only two prototypes were ever produced. Refinements made to the cockpit, tail fins and wings resulted in the F-22 Raptor, which is considered today's most advanced fighter jet.
