Heli-Max 1Si w/Camera

Ready-to-Fly Quadcopter w/2.4GHz Radio, LiPo Battery & Charger

This is a Heli-Max 1Si w/Camera Ready-to-Fly Quadcopter. Among all the R/C quadcopters now available, the ready-to-fly 1Si stands out as one-of-a-kind. It's the only one that puts the "intelligent technology" of quads costing six times more into a model that fits in the palm of your hand. This exclusive Heli-Max technology makes the 1Si the easiest compact quad to fly and the most fun. This version with a built-in camera lets you take in-flight photos and videos, too!

• Actual Direction Control:

Actual Direction Control compensates for the control reversal that can frustrate first-time pilots. It keeps flight direction the same as stick movement, regardless of the 1Si's orientation. You can activate and deactivate Actual Direction Control directly from the transmitter so you can always fly how you want, regardless of your skills.

• Return To Pilot:

If you get confused by the controls, lose track of your model, or it's just time to pack it in for the day, the Return to Pilot feature is a great way to get the 1Si back to you fast. Hit the Return to Pilot button and it will come straight back to you.

• TAGs-FX Sensor Fusion Technology:

TAGS-FX continuously keeps you in complete control. Sensor Fusion Technology integrates data received from dual sources - a 3-axis gyro and 3-axis accelerometer - and compensates immediately for any actions except those you command. TAGS-FX corrects unwanted movement in yaw, pitch and roll while also preventing drift in any direction. You're more in control than ever before!

• Includes Camera and 2GB Memory Card:

Features a micro digital camera for taking still photos and shooting video, with on/off control from the transmitter. Save them onto the included 2GB micro memory card with USB card reader.

Features:

• Fly Indoors or Outdoors in Light Winds

• Aerodynamic Body Shell Helps Stabilize the 1Si During Hovering and Forward Flight

Would this make a good 1st.quad for a 30 year rc pilot.

I am handicapped so most o the flying will be inside. (Posted on 7/7/14)
Great little bird for the money ! Review by Donneal

I have tried all the micros from the Blade MQX , Nano QX to the Hubsans and the Walkeras where each offered something the other doesn't and where the 1si shines is the ability to bring the return to pilot, directional control and camera with video to boot, features normally seen on bigger, more expensive beasts. This micro has pro features of some of the bigger birds available BUT at a fraction of the cost! The kit comes complete with everything needed to fly including battery, charger, spare props and prop protectors. As the other reviewer stated, the quality of the protectors is low as they aren't that durable but on a micro this size it only slows the micro beast down! The little bird has plenty of power for high flying quality video and if you loose orientation you simply hit 'return home' and watch it fly right back into your hands! With the technology this little bird brings to the table it has surely raised the bar against the competition! The bright LED lighting looks similar to another bigger, pro model and just as brilliant in the night sky! To be honest, this little guy is a serious hobby grade craft with a nice transmitter offering a very detailed selection of calibration techniques usually offered again in bigger pro models. Because of that reason alone I gave her 5 stars! Helimax really thought about this little bird and how to keep her running at the best with these calibration steps. The frame seals in the 6axis flight controller and LED system fully for protection but the super stable flight will keep the little bird from crashing and leaving you to enjoy long flights with video and super high quality pictures for a very affordable package. I would be fine with offering this safe, stable micro to any teen as a gift of a lifetime as the technology included makes it a breeze to learn multirotor flight while giving the option to faster rates for higher performance when ready. Thank you Helimax for bringing one incredible micro multirotor that compared to the others makes flying finally easy and FUN! (Posted on 5/8/14)

Good... but NOT great! Review by BillMills

The Heli-Max U816 is, on the face of it, a good little quadcopter. But not a great one. It has a number of design flaws which a buyer should be aware of, and prepared for. For example, the rotor guards are not particularly protective. They are quite thin and will easily break with minimal impact or be mangled to a position at which they will rub against or completely block a rotor from spinning. The battery compartment is badly designed leaving very little space to fully insert the connection wires so one can close the battery compartment door. The door is 'snap hinged' to a thin piece of plastic and will easily pop off while trying to close it, or totally break the plastic strip to which it is attached. The camera lens is under the battery compartment and if the door is left open, or falls open during flight, it will cover and block the camera's view. The SD card slot is on the undercarriage of the heli and is open, so it will easily get dirt or other debris inside of it, especially when landing (or crashing) into dusty dirty terrain etcetera. Of course, getting the SD card slot filled with dirt will, potentially, completely ruin it. The position of the 'F Mode' and 'ICM' buttons on the controller makes both buttons far too easy to unintentionally push during flight. The four LED lights are a bit of a joke. They are supposed to help determine the heli's direction... Red for the front, Blue for the back. They are not very bright, but worse there is a fifth light set in the center of the back of the craft that is large, visible and Red! But the Red LED lights are on the front to identify it as the front which makes that whole color scheme plan rather useless. In the long run you have mostly a Red glow overall. The controller's settings which require the user to push down one joystick once and the other four times then click a trim button, and other similar instructions, are so complicated as to be laughable. A simple 'Menu' from which to make changes to the settings would be a much more practical design decision. (Posted on 2/21/14)
Helimax 1SI quad copter Review by D308

I've gone through the other helimax quads first. This one flys far better than its predecessor. It's rugged and is very stable. The camera does a good job for what it is. You can see video on my youtube page. Look up mrd308 and review the helimax 1si video.

I'm very happy with it and would recommend it.

The weak points that I've found is the battery door falls off after a few uses. The battery is a little tricky to install.
The flight time is reasonable at around 7 minutes. Using the video shortens the flight time. When the battery gets weak it can't recover from a rapid descent without bouncing off the ground first. Then, it climbs again.

It's a keeper and a lot of fun.

Great quad with one minor problem Review by Chris
Rating
I bought the quad a few days ago and I have flown it several times. It flies like a dream, a million times better than any helicopter. My first time at the stick was indoors and I felt comfortable enough to fly it around my two-year old son. I took it outside that night and flew over the apron in front and of the garages with a mild breeze. Unlike other helis that claim to be able to fly in wind, this one actually could, to a degree. I tried the camera at night but low-light operation was truly horrible.

The next day I took it to my job on the docks. Again, there was a mild breeze. I never felt the model was out of control, and the few times a breeze did catch it I was able to compensate immediately. The LEDs are suprisingly easy to see in the daytime and really help with orientation. Daytime video was spectacular from such a little camera. I flew about 80 feet above the dock and got some nice footage. I haven't tried still pictures yet.

However, the absolute direction control didn't seem to work. I'm an experienced enough pilot that I don't need it, but it does need to actually work. That's why I knocked off the fifth star.

Overall, I'm really impressed with it. It does take some experimentation to get the tilt on the camera right for the situation though. (Posted on 1/17/14)
