I own two xls 52's. One is great, the other stil not running right Review by robert

My first xls 52 is wonderful, great power, easy starting, fuel efficient. I have had it two years. Bought a second one last year. It overheated, leaned out, stalled. The cylinder wall lost some chrome. I bought a new piston/cylinder and head, I broke in the engine again. I cannot get the engine to idle without quitting. I'm going to try a Thunderbolt A3 glow plug. they claim to run hotter. I will try to contact Magnum if this doesn't help. (Posted on 5/4/15)

My flying buddy bought a .52 and could not make it run right, and gave it to me not even broke in I messed with it a bit and figured out the idle was real fat I leaned it to transition correctly and it f.n screams it will eat an os55 alive (Posted on 2/14/15)
Great Engine!!! Review by Ron J

This engine is incredible!!!!.....the low speed needle will wonder on you and will drive you crazy.....take it out, clean the threads, put some blue loctite on it and screw it in most of the way. After the loctite cures it will snap loose very easily, but will now be tighter and won't wonder on you. Very powerful engine and a great price!!! (Posted on 9/15/14)

power for the buck Review by benpatt

I own two of the magnum XLS 52,s. I have been a Magnum fan for many years. I love the power that the 52 puts out. I have amazed other flyers when I tell them that I am using the 52 magnum and how it seems to out perform the os 55. I am giving a 3 star rate because while flying my favorite fun fly plane the engine stopped dead in the air. The connecting rod broke from the shaft I have not had this 52 vary long , I took it to hobby people they said that they don't send engines back any more. still I will buy more magnums. Awesome horsepower Review by BryanW

Once you get the low speed needle to keep a set, transition becomes good. On an 11x7.5 we race SPAD Das Plas Sticks, and the engine will out run, and out perform the OS 55 on the same airframe. 3 Stars because the bearings suck!! Once you start eating glow plugs, replace with Boca Bearings. Had one engine warrantied because of the bearings came a part and shot the prop off at 14K RPM. It also is a very sloppy engine, blowing raw fuels from about every orifice you can imagine..but on sale, you can get two of these to one OS, and make way more power on bigger props. After repeated unsuccessful attempts to get the engine to idle and transition to maximum RPM I replace the carburetor and rear needle valve assembly, Part No. 283023. The engine now performs as outlined in the owners manual.

The warranty period expired prior to my use of the engine and no offer to replace the defective parts was made, For this reason my evaluation of the product and its support remains low. (Posted on 7/12/12)
Great bang for the money! Review by Jack

After doing the break in per the instructions (actually 3 12oz tanks for me) I just went
flying keeping it rich, didn't touch the low speed neddle and wow! reliable and never quits, very decent performance, I have it in a great planes sport mustang with a 11x7 apc and I almost keep up with my buddy who has the same plane but with an OS 55AX! keep in mind mine is stil very rich. I'm using the optional pitts muffler and it is great BUT you need to plug one of the exaust pipes or else you wont have enough back pressure in the tank and that leads to an unresponsive needle valve and lean runs. YOU CAN'T GO WRONG WITH THIS ONE! I have several OS and this one is on par except for the price. Oh and even if it's rich with a 12oz tank I fly 15 minutes and still have plenty of reserve to go around another 2-3 minutes. A+ !! (Posted on 11/1/11)
5* I Recommend it "Great PRICE" Review by LVTRANSPLANT

Pretty easy to start up by hand, even during the break in process. Runs great and not as messy as other engines around. I installed mine with their Pitts Style muffler and is sounds nice with little to no mess to clean up. (Posted on 10/14/11)
