Academy 1/72 Curtiss P-40B Tomahawk USA When the requirements for the P-40 were formulated, no prospect of high-altitude enemy attack against the U.S.A was envisaged, so that coastal defence and ground attack were the main tasks indicated.

Low-altitude flying qualities and rugged construction therefore received priority, and, in fact, the P-40 was subsequently to prove itself an excellent ground-attack weapon. But at the time of the Japanese attack on pearl Harbour this fighter was already approaching obsolescence, despite having been in production for less than two years.

Nevertheless, between 1940 and 1944, when acceptances were terminated, a total of 13,738 P-40 fighters were delivered to the U.S.A.A.F., the peak number in service being 2,499 in April 1944.

The P-40 was a relatively clean design, and was unusual for its time in having a fully retractable tail-wheel. One hundred and ninety-seven P-40s were built in 1939-40 for the U.S.A.A.F., and many more were sold abroad to Britain and France. Academy 1/72 FW-190A 6/8 w/Kubelwagen The Fw-190 was intended to replace the Bf-109 and is considered to be the most advanced combat machine to go into action in quantity during the war. Its original charge was air combat, but the Fw-190 eventually became the Luftwaffes standard tactical attack and close-support aircraft. The planes superior handling and faster roll gate allowed even inexperienced pilots to enjoy success in the skies.

The Fw-190A8, nicknamed Butcher Bird, was the last production version of the 190 series with a BMW-801 radial engine, and more Butcher Birds were built than any of the series. Wide stance retractable landing gear and flaps made it highly stable on the ground. Standard armament included two MG151 cannons in each wing and two MG131 cannons in the fuselage. A common addition was a WB 151 20mm gun pack mounted under each wing. Planes with this additional armament were redesignated Fw-190 A8/R1.

This is an Academy 1:72 PBY-5A "Black Cat U.S.N." Plastic Model Kit. The earlier PBY-2 and PBY-5 Catalina flying boats were faster and more attractive to look at, but it was the Black Cat Squadrons that wrote some of the most interesting chapters in the history of the War in the Pacific. Their search and attack capability was the perfect answer to the Japanese tactics of moving men and supplies at night by ship or barge to re-supply their out-of the-way garrisons in the western Pacific.

The early RADAR installed on the PBY-5A Catalinas was crude and very limited, but it worked well enough that the Black Cats were able to sink over 10,000 tons and seriously damage another 24,000 tons of Japanese merchant shipping in their night attacks. Because of its amphibian landing gear, the PBY-5A had the advantage of operating from island landing strips or seaplane tenders, but this came at a price. Because of the added weight of retractable landing gear, the PBY-5A was slower and couldn't fly as high as the earlier pure seaplane versions.

Academy 1/72 Sopwith Camel RAF The Camel was perhaps the best allied fighter of WW I. It was victory tally was 1,924 aircraft short down in only sixteen months of fighting.

The Camel was an Aces Mount which was extremely agile and had a fast rate of climb. In a controversial air battle in 1918 the great Baron Von Richthofen fell to the guns of a 209 Squadron RAF Camel flown by Canadian Roy Brown.

Total production was 5,490 aircraft between 1917 and 1918.

Academy 1/72 Spad XIII WWI RAF The French-built SPAD XIII was one of the most famous fighters of World War I. While most of the fighters in use during the War used a rotating radial engine(Rotary), the SPAD was one of the first to use the more powerful and efficient liquid-cooled inline type which later became the standard power unit for fighter aircraft for many years.

So effective was the SPAD that several Allied countries used it during the War, including the United States, who had no combat airplanes of its own design in the War. Armed with one or two Vickers 7.65 mm machine guns firing through the propeller arc, the SPAD was a formidable foe. Some versions of the plane carried a devastating 37mm Hotchkiss cannon mounted in the nose and firing through the propeller hub. Other SPADs carried strut-mounted Le Prieur rockets.

This model of the SPAD XIII has markings used by one of the United States fighter groups based in France.

Academy 1:72 U.S. Navy TBF-1 Avenger

This is an Academy 1:72 U.S. Navy TBF-1 Avenger Plastic Model Kit. The grumman TBF-1 went into action during the battle of midway. The results of that first battle were not encouraging with five of the six aircraft belonging to VT-8 being shot down. However, the TBFs had upset the Japanese defense plans and American dive bombers were able to strike several of the enemy's carriers. After this intensive battle, the TBF was christened the Avenger, an appropriate name for the sturdy torpedo bomber that was to fight all the way to Japan.

The Avenger was on every front of the pacific war and was one of the prime tools for victory. However, after the war Avenger began to fade. A few Served with the marines in Korea while a very few stayed in service until the mid 1950s. The Avenger found wide use in many foreign countries such as great Britain, New Zealand, Canada, and Japan. The last military Avengers were retired by the Japanese during 1962. During the last few years several individuals and museums have taken the Avenger into care and have restored several into splendid examples of the military version of the famous torpedo bomber.

Hobby Boss 1:48 F-14D Super Tomcat

Plastic Model Kit

This is a Hobby Boss 1:48 F-14D Super Tomcat Plastic Model Kit. The final variant of the F-14 was the F-14D Super Tomcat, first delivered in 1991. The original TF-30 engines were replaced with GE F110-400 engines, similar to the F-14B. The F-14D also included newer digital avionics systems, including a glass cockpit, and replaced the AWG-9 radar with the newer AN/APG-71 radar. Other systems included SJU-17 Naval Aircrew Common Ejection Seats (NACES) and Infra-red search and track (IRST). Although the F-14D was to be the definitive version of the Tomcat, not all fleet units received the D variant. Congress decided not to shut production down and funded 55 aircraft as part of a compromise. A total of 37 new aircraft were completed and 18 F-14A models were upgraded to D-models, designated F-14D for rebuild. An upgrade to the F-14D's computer software to allow AIM-120 AMRAAM missile capability was planned but was later terminated.

Hobby Boss 1/700 USS Balao SS-285 The Balao (SS-285) class was conceived as an improved Gato (SS-212) class submarine. Balao introduced several new concepts to the submarine force when she was commissioned in 1943. The most important of these being the thicker pressure hull, using 7/8" high tensile steel plates rather than the 5/8" plate used in the earlier Gato class. Improvements in hull construction increased the test depth of this class to 400-feet as opposed to 350-feet in the Gato class and fuel capacity was significantly increased which improved patrol radius. Submerged endurance was 48 hours at 2 knots. Cruising range was almost 10,000 sea miles on the surface at 10 knots with 116,000 gallons of diesel fuel. Patrol duration was 75 days.

Hobby Boss 1/72 F4U-4 Corsair One of the classic aircraft of the World War II period, the Corsair was designed in 1938 to meet a USN requirement for a shipboard fighter. The distinctive inverted gull-wing was to provide sufficient ground clearance for the huge propellor attached to the Double Wasp engine. The XF4U-1 was first flown on May 29 1940. On October 1st, 1940, the aircraft became the first to exceed 400mph - achieving 404mph (646kmh). The aircraft entered service in mid-1942, and development continued through to 1952.

The Grumman F9F Panther was the manufacturer's first jet fighter and the US Navy's second. It first flew in 1947. Power was a Rolls-Royce Nene turbojet built under license by Pratt & Whitney as the J42. Since there was insufficient space within the wings and fuselage for fuel for the thirsty jet, permanently mounted wingtip fuel tanks were added.

DeLorean and promotional manager Jim Wagners, the 1964 Pontiac GTO was GM’s practical answer to the short coming of the early ‘60’s era Super Stock By using a less aggressive big block V8 in a lighter intermediate body, the automaker had achieved almost the same horsepower to weight ratio, and equivalent acceleration, while retaining smooth driving and decent fuel economy. One enthusiasts magazine clocked a TriPower GTO from 0 to 100mph, then back to a dead stop in an incredible 19.4 seconds. Only a Ferrari could match this kind of performance in 1964, which is why Pontiac adopted the Italian manufacturer’s moniker “Gran Turismo Omalgamato.” The GTO also featured a recalibrated suspension for improved cornering and high speed stability. Revell 1/24 '77 Chevrolet Van Plastic Model Kit

Construct a custom classic.

The American van started in the late 60s and has been popular ever since. It has been used for everything from handyman truck to “Hippie” van. It is powered by a small block V-8 engine on a basic truck chassis. How the inside is equipped depends on the user. This version is the full size van with the most area inside.The biggest change to the basic van was when they moved the engine forward. This was done in the early 1970s and it made it possible to do routine maintenance from the outside of the truck. Otherwise the van has remained unchanged. Later came the development of the “Mini Van”, but they are more of a family vehicle and not used commercially like the full size van.

The 1977 Chevy Van continued the traditional look of earlier third-generation models produced during the 1970s. Multiple engine options were offered by Chevy, including gas-powered V6s and diesel-powered V8s. Tough, truck-style hubs and brakes were complemented by a dual A-Arm independent front suspension. On the outside, the van consisted of a unibody-style frame with a short nose and hood. Revell 1/25 '67 Chevelle Pro Street

Street-legal, with style to spare.

The hot version of the Chevelle in 1967 was the SS 396 but today that’s not hot enough. It needs to be as they say, “Tubbed out”. This places a full Pro-Stock rear axle assembly and large drag slicks completely within the stock bodywork. This way the cars are completely street legal. It started an all new drag class called Pro-Street. They are not the easiest cars to drive on the street, but what fun when you hit the gas. In order to fit the big rear tires, creative fabricating work must be done in the back seat and into the trunk. This trend first started in the 1980s as more and more power was produced. The drive was how to get that power to the ground, but stay street legal. Also the clean lines of the 67 Chevelle are just too nice to be cutting out big wheel openings. So the changes were made to the inside.

When it was originally released, the 1967 Chevelle was the fastest thing on four wheels. Revell 1/25 Cadillac Custom Lowrider

Tricked-out with plenty of "bling!"

When you bring on the “Bling”, you need to do it in style. What better way than in a Caddy. In 1984 GM produced the last of the full size Cadillacs. These late model Caddys make the best lowriders with their classic body on frame construction. They are perfect for going way down low or way up high. For many years we have not seen General Motors factory involvement in Corvette® racing, but in 1998 this all changed. With the new C5™ version of the Corvette, the factory decided to officially support a full blown racing program. In the 1960s drag racing had what is commonly known as the “Gasser Wars”. The Gasser class was ruled by the Willys Coupe and competitors like K.S. Pittman. He was one of the first to earn a living in match racing from coast to coast. With victories in the prestigious Nationals K.S. Pittman also set records for gas powered drag coupes. Your typical Gasser in the 1960s was a 41 Willys coupe with a big block Hemi motor. This is the car K.S. Pittman set the record for the quarter mile in under 8 seconds fueled with just gasoline. His Willys had the popular straight axle in the front which helped to weight transfer to the rear. The Gassers were the forerunners of the Funny Cars which were very popular with the fans.
